THOR FRIDAY NIGHT 628 PROGRAM REVAMPED AND AMPED!!

So, as you all know, THOR is, and has always been treated as a creative project and work-in-progress; and each program and its members need to always be challenged and inspired. In this, I would like to take a sec to let you know how 628 will be run going forward, in a totally new revamped and pretty cool way – all a first for us. It will be easiest to break it down into three components:

1) SONGWRITING AND RECORDING EXPERIMENTS
We have split the program into 3 “bands”, and these “bands” have already started working on collaborating on songs. The main objective is for each member to put their creative stamp on the song, and for the groups to think outside the box and truly collaborate. THOR has a new ProTools recording rig with all the bells, whistles and plug-ins, so we will be working on multi-tracking the songs to make some cool in-house demos of the material. When we are done with this process we will switch up the groups for different creative experiences.

2) THEORY AND IMPROV EXCRCISES
With the addition of Derrick Klybash as co-director, he brings a serious knowledge of music theory. He has already had the group learning a scale together, that even the drummers can participate in. This will take the program members outside of their comfort zones in a way that will end up creating very cool improv jams.

3) OLD-SCHOOL THOR SETLIST
A huge element of THOR has always been the setlists chosen by the members, and we feel that it’s an integral part of how each member can search for and bring out their creative personality. It’s integral for every musician to play covers, and we all do this throughout our adult lives. So, this will still be a part of the program and is already shaping up as an awesome set because the musicianship has reached such a high level. This set will be performed at the THOR Takes Over The Hiro Show on 2/11.
